Cam Allen Austin Concert reviews
Tour de force
"I’d only seen the band once before, in San Diego circa 1992. When the show started, the band delivered immediately on the songs from Shake Your Moneymaker, seemingly in order and with fire. Bought the tix for this show ~ 2 years ago. Chris Robinson was obviously happy and played more rhythm than lead. Rich Robinson appeared to use several guitars; the “lead” guitarist just wailed on some solos. After presenting Shake Your Moneymaker, the band then played several cuts from their second album, Southern Harmony and Musical Companion, ending with a cover of a Lou Reed song. As promised, the band (8 performers, incl. new personnel) had a tavern motif on stage, including a “bartender” who stood on stage the entire time. Straight down to business, they're back with all the thrust of an SR-71. I rate this show in my top three, with Peter Frampton’s farewell show and The Rolling Stones when I saw them in 2006."
